About John McLaren Park
Originally part of an 1836 Spanish land grant and the site of a planned, but never constructed, sub-division in 1905, John McLaren Park was proposed as a park in 1926. It was purchased by the City of San Francisco and dedicated in 1934. The park is near the southeast corner of San Francisco. It is bisected east-west by Mansell Street. The southern half of the park is crossed by Sunnydale and Visitacion Avenues, and the northern half by John F. Shelley Drive. Elevations in McLaren Park range from approximately 100 and 125 feet above mean sea level in the southern and northern corners of the park to just over 525 feet above mean sea level at the top of the hill that forms the core of the park, above Luther Burbank Middle School. Recreational facilities within McLaren Park include tennis courts, ball fields, a golf course, picnic areas, overlooks, and an amphitheater.
McLaren Park is in the southeast part of San Francisco. It is north of the Cow Palace and Geneva Avenue, east of Mission Street, south of Interstate 280, and west of US 101 and San Bruno Avenue. McLaren is surrounded by several different neighborhoods: Visitacion Valley, the Portola, the Excelsior, and Crocker-Amazon. The following directions are for the simplest routes around or through the different neighborhoods.

From Mission Street:
Turn onto persia going up hill
until persia becomes mansell
continue until you see john shelly drive on your left, hang a left
onto john shelley drive look for amphitheater parking sign on your left
park! then party.........
From Paul Avenue:
continue forward 'cuz paul becomes mansell
continue until you see john shelley drive on your right
hang a right and look for amphitheater parking sign on your left
park! then party.........
From S.F. / Hwy 101 South:
exit off of Hwy 101 onto silver ave
go straight onto silliman street
turn left on cambridge St.
cambridge dead-ends into john f shelley drive
turn left on jf shelly dr.,look for amphitheater parking sign on your right
park! then party.........
